The Desert

Nine long months.
The time had finally come,
He was coming home.
It had been far too long.

It had been far too long
Since the sound of his laughter
Roamed through the halls–
Filling the house with love,
Filling the house with life.

But the man that came back
Was not the same person.
The life gone from his eyes,
The will to live lost.

In that desolate desert
He was changed forever.
Then I realized,
That Dad never came home.
